DMTSBF is used for the synthesis of fatty acids and other organic compounds. It can also be used as an analytical reagent for determining the blood group of proteins. The chloride ion is necessary for this reaction. DMTSBF reacts with a nucleophile (e.g., hydroxyl, amine, thiol) to form a new bond and release sodium carbonate and silver trifluoromethanesulfonate.
