It inhibits the growth of cultured mammalian cells by inducing apoptosis and inhibiting DNA synthesis. 2,5-Dibromo-1,4-benzoquinone has also been used in a model system to demonstrate that ferrocene can serve as an acceptor for electron transfer reactions.
