2,8-Dimethyldibenzothiophene is a chemical compound that is used in industry as an intermediate to produce other chemicals. The main use of 2,8-dimethyldibenzothiophene is for desulfurization of naphthalene, which can be accomplished by reacting it with hydrogen at high temperatures. This process leads to the formation of biphenyl, which is also produced industrially.
