Di(C8-10-branched,C9-rich alkyl) phthalate is a high molecular weight compound that is used in polyvinyl chloride plastics. It is an important component of the mixture of chemicals known as phthalates. This chemical has been shown to be toxic to the testes and can disrupt cell signaling pathways. Di(C8-10-branched,C9-rich alkyl) phthalate has been shown to cause liver cancer in rats and mice. It does not readily dissolve in water, but it can be degraded by microorganisms in wastewater treatment plants.
