2,4'-Dihydroxydiphenylmethane is a phenolic compound that is used as an electron acceptor in wastewater treatment. This compound is able to reduce chlorinated organic compounds and other pollutants, such as organic acids and heavy metals. 2,4'-Dihydroxydiphenylmethane shows a constant FTIR spectrum with two major absorptions at 1725 and 1630 cm-1. The chemical structure of 2,4'-dihydroxydiphenylmethane consists of a hydroxyl group and a chlorine atom that are both electron donors.
