2,4-Diethylthioxanthen-9-one (2,4-DT) is a diphenyl sulfoxide that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of cancer by radiation. It inhibits rna replication and causes a decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential. 2,4-DT also has the ability to crosslink DNA with other molecules such as cellulose derivatives. In addition, it can inhibit cationic polymerization reactions due to its low energy content. 2,4-DT is a reactive chemical that can cause toxicity if inhaled or ingested.
