Diethylbenzene is a hydrocarbon that reacts with hydrogen fluoride to form diethyl ether and hydrochloric acid. It is a colorless liquid with an aromatic odor. Diethylbenzene is used as an extractant, as a catalyst for the oxidation of ethylene, and in analytical chemistry. Diethylbenzene has been shown to have synergistic effects when combined with divinylbenzene and a solid catalyst in reactions involving the oxidation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
