2,4-Difluorobenzyl cyanide (2,4-DCB) is a synthetic radical compound that has been shown to react with chloride ions at optimum conditions. 2,4-DCB has been used as a fluorescent probe for biomolecules and has reactivity with thionyl chloride and other reactive compounds. It is also a reactive molecule that reacts with the hetero atom chlorine in the presence of hydrogen gas at room temperature. The 2,4-DCB molecule can be synthesized by electrolysis of its sodium salt in a sulfuric acid solution.
