2,5-Difluorobenzoyl chloride is a synthetic fluorinated quinolone antibiotic. This drug is active against animals and commensal organisms, but not against intestinal opportunistic bacteria. 2,5-Difluorobenzoyl chloride has been shown to be effective in vitro against the oral bacteria faecalis and bioreductive enzymes such as glucans. However, this drug is not active against human pathogens such as kinesin. It has been shown to have potent anti-inflammatory properties in mice with chemically induced colitis. The mechanism of action of 2,5-Difluorobenzoyl chloride may be due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of proinflammatory cytokines such as TNFα and IL1β by inhibiting NFκB activation through blocking p38 MAP kinase phosphorylation.
