3,6-Dimethoxyflavone is a flavonoid that has been shown to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. It has been shown to inhibit the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in skin cells and also inhibits collagen degradation. 3,6-Dimethoxyflavone can be used as an antioxidant or anti-inflammatory agent for health purposes, such as skin care. The compound binds to the radical site on the enzyme lipoxygenase and inhibits its activity, preventing the formation of lipid hydroperoxides. 3,6-Dimethoxyflavone also suppresses the inflammatory response by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα).
