3',4'-Dihydroxypropiophenone is a bioactive compound that belongs to the group of pheromones. It is an enantiopure compound that can be used in the clarification of biological samples, as well as an analytical method for the identification of hormones and other biologically active compounds. 3',4'-Dihydroxypropiophenone has been shown to be a postulated phytoalexin inducer, and can be used for the treatment of various cancers. 3',4'-Dihydroxypropiophenone also has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth by nucleophilic attack on phosphonates, which are often found in bacteria cell walls.
