4,6-Dichloropyrimidine-5-carbonitrile (4,6-DCP) is a synthetic herbicide that is used to control weeds. 4,6-DCP inhibits the biosynthesis of arvensis and other weeds by inhibiting the enzyme acetolactate synthase in the synthesis of branched chain amino acids. This agent has been shown to be effective against portulaca oleracea, retroflexus, hirsutum, and velvetleaf. 4,6-DCP also has an effect on the biosynthesis of amines and analogs in tissue culture. 4,6-DCP was shown to inhibit thidiazuron resistant amine analogs at low concentrations.
