3,4’-O-dimethylellagic acid is a flavonoid found in the pentacyclic triterpene class. It is found in the heartwood of the Myrtaceae species. 3,4’-O-dimethylellagic acid may be useful for treating cardiovascular diseases and cancer. This compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumor cells and may be used as an anti-inflammatory agent. 3,4’-O-Dimethylellagic acid is an ellagitannin that can be found in some plants such as Punica granatum (pomegranate). The structure of this compound consists of a hexahydroxydiphenoyl group attached to a gallic acid molecule.
