Damascenone is a phenolic compound that is found in the essential oils of plants such as lavender, rosemary, and sage. Damascenone inhibits the growth of bacteria by hydrolyzing fatty acids and other compounds. It also has shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect on muscles, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of prostaglandins. Damascenone has been studied as a chemical marker for pharmaceutical preparations and has been used as a substitute for ethyl decanoate in model systems.
