This compound has been shown to increase the growth rate of some organisms and suppress the growth rate of others. 8,8-Difluoromyristic Acid has also been shown to have fluorescent properties when excited by light at wavelengths near 350 nm. This property makes it useful as a fluorescent probe for studying lipid bilayers.
