2,4-Dibromo-5-fluoroanisole is an intermediate that is used in the synthesis of a variety of organic compounds. It has been shown that this compound can be synthesized by regioselective bifunctional activation of methoxy groups. This process involves the use of butyllithium as a base and preferentially yields the 2,4-dibromo-5-fluoroanisole. 2,4-Dibromo-5-fluoroanisole can be used to synthesize a variety of functional groups with different reactivity. The fluorine atom in this molecule is electron withdrawing and can lead to nucleophilic substitution reactions or electrophilic addition reactions.
