This compound has been shown to be sensitive and membrane permeable, and has a fluorescence enhancement effect on the fluorescence of other fluorophores. 1,3-Dichloro-6-fluoroisoquinoline is able to bind to the cell membrane, which may make it a useful probe for detecting proteins and lipids. It also exhibits switchable properties when bound to metal ions, allowing for easy detection by switching between transmission (low) and reflection (high).
