2,2-Difluoro-1,3-diphenyl-propane-1,3-dione is a reagent that reacts with 1-indanone to produce 2,2-difluoromethylenecyclopropane. The reagent provides high yields and is a useful starting material for the synthesis of other difluorinated compounds. It can be used as a chloride source in organic chemistry.

The compound is also used in the production of diketones, which are important in the manufacture of plastics and pharmaceuticals. In particular, it is used to prepare pyrrolidines from acetonitrile and tetrabutylammonium iodide.
