(3R,4S,5S,6R)-2,2-Difluoro-6-(Hydroxymethyl)Oxane-3,4,5-Triol is the monofluoride of (3R)-2,2-difluoro-6-(hydroxymethyl)oxane. It has been shown to inhibit the enzyme aspergillus and act as a vessel for fluorine. This irreversible inhibitor binds to the enzyme at a site that is different from the catalytic site. The biochemical and kinetic properties of this reversible inhibitor have been characterized in vitro with purified enzymes. In vivo studies have shown that this compound is not toxic to the kidneys or liver and does not cause any adverse effects on blood pressure or heart rate.
A study has also found that difluoride may be an intermediate in the reaction of (3R)-2,2-difluoro-6-(hydroxymethyl)ox
