Descripción

Fluconazole is an antifungal drug that inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of the fungal cell membrane. The drug binds to the enzyme lanosterol 14α-demethylase and blocks the production of ergosterol. Fluconazole is used in the treatment of candidiasis, blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, and coccidioidomycosis. It has also been used for prophylaxis against infections with Candida albicans in bone marrow transplant recipients, although resistance to this drug has been reported. Dry weight was determined from measurements taken on reconstituted cells. Treatment was given orally at a dose of 100 mg/kg/day for 3 days.
