(S)-11-Formy-4-ethyl-4-hydroxy-1,12-dihydro-4H-2-oxa-6,12a-diaza-dibenzo[B,H]fluorene-3,13-dione (EHT) is a cytotoxic agent that inhibits the growth of lung carcinoma cells by inhibiting DNA synthesis. This drug has been shown to be synergistic with other cytotoxic agents in the treatment of lung tumors. EHT has low toxicity and tolerability in animals and is active against most tumor cell lines. The cytochrome P450 system is involved in the metabolism of EHT, while aliphatic amines are responsible for its elimination. EHT is active at nanomolar concentrations and can selectively inhibit topoisomerase I over topoisomerase II. It also binds to purine bases such as adenine and guanine more strongly than
