1,2-Epoxyhexane is an epoxide that has a variety of uses in the synthesis of polycarboxylic acids. 1,2-Epoxyhexane can be synthesized by reacting ethylene diamine with an inorganic acid such as hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid. The reaction mechanism for this reaction is an example of a nucleophilic addition followed by elimination.
