• Descripción: Escitalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that is used for the treatment of major depressive disorder. Escitalopram binds to the serotonin transporter protein, which inhibits the reuptake of serotonin from the synaptic cleft and increases its concentration in the synaptic cleft. Escitalopram has been shown to be effective in treating depression and anxiety disorders. Escitalopram's antidepressant effects are statistically significant in comparison to placebo, but it is unclear if these effects are clinically significant. Escitalopram also has cardiac effects, including increased heart rate and blood pressure. The drug interacts with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen or aspirin, and can increase their effects on platelets and reduce their ability to prevent blood clots.
