Ethyl 5-acetyl-2-amino-4-methylthiophene-3-carboxylate is an anticancer drug that belongs to the class of compounds called nucleoside analogues. It is a prodrug that is converted in the body to 5-ethoxycarbonyl-[2,4′-(ethylenedioxy)dithiophen-3′yl]-2′,5′-(methylenedioxy)dithiophene. This drug has been shown to have anticancer activity against epidermoid carcinoma cells and may be used for the treatment of this type of cancer. The mechanism by which Ethyl 5-acetyl-2-amino-4-methylthiophene-3-carboxylate exerts its anticancer effect remains unknown.
