Ethyl 6-hydroxynicotinate is an acetylcholine receptor agonist that binds to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. It has been shown to have a high affinity for the acetylcholine receptor and a low frequency of binding. Ethyl 6-hydroxynicotinate has been shown to have insecticidal activity against Manduca sexta larvae and nicotine-like activity in rats, suggesting that it may be useful for the treatment of nicotine addiction. This drug also has a chlorine atom in its structure, which makes it able to bind with DNA as well as proteins.
