Ethyl 6-bromopicolinate is a ligand that binds to the lanthanide metal ions. It has been shown to have neuroprotective effects, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of proinflammatory cytokines and reactive oxygen species. Ethyl 6-bromopicolinate can also induce bond cleavage in anions, such as nitrite and nitrate, which may lead to the formation of nitric oxide. This study found that ethyl 6-bromopicolinate had a neuroprotective effect on Alzheimer's disease mice by inhibiting inflammatory responses and preventing oxidative damage in brain cells.
