Apremilast is a synthetic drug that belongs to the class of phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitors. It is used in the treatment of moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis. Apremilast has been shown to be effective in reducing inflammation and erythema, as well as inhibiting keratinocyte proliferation and activation of T cells. Apremilast is able to inhibit the activity of phosphodiesterase 4 enzymes by binding to them, which prevents the breakdown of cyclic nucleotides such as cAMP and cGMP.
