All-E-heptaprenol is a natural product that belongs to the class of all-trans-retinoids. It has been found to inhibit bacterial growth by inhibiting the synthesis of fatty acids and their derivatives, such as farnesyl diphosphate and atp-binding cassette transporter. All-E-heptaprenol is synthesized in vitro from 7,8,9,10-tetrahydroprotoberberine and 3,4,5,6-tetrahydropyridine. The reaction products are analyzed using fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. All-E-heptaprenol is also a gene product that codes for an enzyme involved in the histone protein metabolism pathway.
