Ethyl 4-pyrimidinecarboxylate is a synthetic molecule that has been shown to be an effective ligand for bleomycin, and exhibits high activity in the oxidation of thiols. The FTIR spectrum of ethyl 4-pyrimidinecarboxylate shows intense bands at 1627 cm-1 (C=O stretching) and 1288 cm-1 (N=N stretching). This compound has also been shown to react with pyrazoles, nitrogen nucleophiles, and other parameters. Ethyl 4-pyrimidinecarboxylate is used as a molecular electrostatic potential for molecular modeling studies.
