3-Ethylquinoline is a pyridine derivative that is used as a biomolecular marker. It is one of the two isomers of quinoline, which are both bases. 3-Ethylquinoline has an effective concentration of 0.2 to 1 mM and can be detected in alcoholic solutions with a pH between 2 and 4. It reacts with carbonyl groups, such as those found in phosphoreum, triethylammonium, and molecular structures containing alcohols. 3-Ethylquinoline has a molecular structure consisting of a benzene ring with two ethyl chains on opposite sides. The molecule also exhibits fluorescence when irradiated with light at wavelengths between 275 and 350 nm.
