Emodinanthrone has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi in vitro. The antibacterial activity of emodinanthrone is due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and proteins by inhibiting bacterial DNA polymerase and protein synthesis. It has also been shown to have synergistic effects when used with other antimicrobial agents such as hypericins or anthrone.
