Ethyl 2-formyl-1-cyclopropanecarboxylate is a diazo compound that is used in the synthesis of butyric acid. It reacts with ethyl diazoacetate to form an ethyl ester, which is hydrolyzed to produce butyric acid. This reaction can be optimized by using various heteroatomic linkers, such as butadiene, nitrobenzene, and acetone. The cyclopropane ring can also be synthesized from the reaction of ethyl 2-formyl-1-cyclopropanecarboxylate with a diazo compound.
