Ethyl 5-amino-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylate is a pyrimidine analog that inhibits the activity of dpp-iv, which is an enzyme that plays a role in the regulation of cell proliferation. Ethyl 5-amino-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylate has been shown to inhibit the growth of leukemia cells in vitro and has also been used to treat chronic myeloid leukemia. The mechanism by which this drug functions may be due to its ability to inhibit chloride channels and thereby block cellular respiration. The cytotoxic effect of ethyl 5-amino-1H pyrazole 4 carboxylate has also been demonstrated in vivo through its ability to inhibit nitrogen metabolism and fetal bovine serum albumin synthesis.
