2-[[(Ethylthio)thioxomethyl]thio]-2-methylpropanoic acid (ETMTPA) is a monomer that belongs to the class of styrenes. It is used in the production of polystyrene and cyclic olefin copolymers, which are used in many applications, including as an antibacterial agent. ETMTPA has been shown to have strong antibacterial activity against gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It also has synergistic effects with ammonium salts when combined with other antibiotics, such as erythromycin and ampicillin.
