Epiafzelechin 3-O-gallate is a natural compound found in the plant Theasine. It has been shown to have anti-cancer effects, and its mechanism of action may be due to its ability to inhibit mitochondrial membrane potential. This effect also leads to a decrease in the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which can cause DNA damage and induce apoptosis. Epiafzelechin 3-O-gallate also has hypoglycemic effects and may be able to reduce blood glucose levels by inhibiting pancreatic lipase activity and lowering the concentration of urea nitrogen. Epiafzelechin 3-O-gallate is a molecule that binds with high affinity to the enzyme protein kinase C (PKC) δ, which is a potential drug target for cancer treatment.
