Ethyl 2-oxo-2-(2-thienyl)acetate is a heterocyclic compound that is structurally related to pemetrexed. It has been shown to have anticancer activity in bioassays against t47d cells. This compound also has antitumour effects, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells. Ethyl 2-oxo-2-(2-thienyl)acetate is an enantiomer of diethyl 2-oxo-2-(2-thienyl)acetate and has been shown to have similar anti-cancer properties. The two compounds are distinguished by their optical rotation, with the former being dl (left hand) and the latter l (right hand).
