Eteplirsen is a small molecule that inhibits the initiation of mRNA translation by binding to the large ribosomal subunit. Eteplirsen is used in clinical trials for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and has shown promising results in terms of efficacy and safety. This drug also has pharmacological properties that are similar to those of ataluren, an agent that was previously tested as a potential treatment for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
