It has been shown to have potent cytotoxicity against cancer cells, as well as being able to produce nitrosation reactions. The molecular structure of (E)-4-iodocinnamic acid consists of two pairs of phenyl rings connected by a methylene bridge. The hydroxyl group on the second phenyl ring interacts with the amide bond on the first phenyl ring, which stabilizes the molecule and prevents it from melting into a liquid or solid at room temperature. This interaction leads to an increase in its mesomorphic properties and polymorphism.
