Descripción

Enpiroline is a long-chain fatty alcohol that is used as a pharmaceutical dosage form. It is composed of a mixture of fatty alcohols with a variety of chain lengths, including enantiomerically pure α-enpirolin (1,2-dihydroxypropane) and the racemic mixture of 1,2-dihydroxypropane (1R,2S) and 1,2-dihydroxypropene (1S,2R). Enpiroline has been shown to have no significant toxicity in animals. The drug has also been found to be effective in animal models against infectious diseases caused by bacteria such as Streptococcus pyogenes and Salmonella typhimurium. Enpiroline is an example of an intramolecular hydrogen bond forming molecule that is capable of forming intermolecular hydrogen bonds with polymeric matrices.
