Ethoxyacridine-6,9-diamine 2-hydroxypropionate monohydrate (EP) is a compound that has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on cancer cells. EP is a prodrug that can be hydrolyzed by esterases and glucuronidases to release the active form of EP, ethoxyacridin-6,9-diamine. EP is minimally toxic and has a high degree of specificity for cancer cells. The mechanism of action of EP is thought to be related to its ability to induce apoptotic cell death in cancer cells through misoprostol and other mechanisms. This compound also prevents the growth of bacteria by inhibiting the synthesis of proteins vital for cell division.
