Ethyl N-hydroxyacetimidate is a chemiluminescent compound that was synthesized for use with borohydride reduction. It is insoluble in water, but soluble in organic solvents such as THF. This compound has an inhibitory effect on the growth of bacteria and can be used to identify the presence of monoclonal antibodies. Ethyl N-hydroxyacetimidate has been shown to inhibit the growth of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) type 1 by suppressing viral replication. It also inhibits cytotoxicity induced by antimalarial drugs in MDA-MB-231 cells and prevents the formation of disulfide bonds between plasma proteins.
