1-Eicosapentaenoyl-sn-glycerol-3-phosphocholine (1EPA) is a metabolite of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) that is present in mammalian cells. It is produced from EPA by the enzyme phospholipase A2 and can be used as a biomarker for the presence of EPA in human cells. 1EPA has been shown to have diagnostic, physiological, and therapeutic potential. For example, it has been shown to be an effective treatment for endometriosis and may also have uses in fatty liver disease, cirrhosis, and lipidomics.
