Descripción

(-)-Epigallocatechin is a natural compound that belongs to the group of flavonoids. It has been shown to have antioxidant effects in vivo. Epigallocatechin has been shown to inhibit mitochondrial functions and cell death by apoptosis in 3t3-l1 preadipocytes. It also induces neuronal death in experimental models. (-)-Epigallocatechin has been shown to bind to penicillin-binding proteins, which may be due to its ability to inhibit bacterial growth and induce apoptosis in Mycobacterium tuberculosis and other bacteria. Furthermore, this compound inhibits protein synthesis, leading to cell death by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division. The biochemical composition of this natural compound includes epicatechin, gallic acid, quinic acid, rutinose, glucose and other sugars.
