The electrosynthesis of isobutyric acid from ethyl 2,2-dimethyl-3-phenylpropionate was investigated using a constant potential electrolysis system. The cathodic process was carried out at the optimized conditions of a constant potential of −0.2 V and the anodic process at +1.5 V. The product yield was found to be dependent on the cavity volume and the organic solvent used in the reaction. The electrosynthesis of isobutyric acid can be achieved with minimal energy input, as shown by this study, which highlights its potential for commercialization.
