7-Ethyl-10-(4-amino-1-piperidino)carbonyloxycamptothecin (7EPC) is a synthetic drug that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of cancer. It can be used as a diagnostic agent for the detection of epidermal growth factor receptors and stem cells. The 7EPC molecule was designed to target human cytochrome P450 3A4, which is responsible for metabolism of many drugs and may play an important role in the pathogenesis of cancer. This drug has also been shown to inhibit protein synthesis, leading to cell death by suppressing suppressor genes.
