1-Ethyl-2,3,3-trimethylindolenium iodide is a fluorescent probe that is used in the detection of biological molecules. It has been shown to be stable in vitro and active in aqueous solutions at pH values of 1-7. This compound is not photostable, but it can be used for molecular imaging techniques such as fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) or immunoassays. 1-Ethyl-2,3,3-trimethylindolenium iodide binds to acylase enzymes and can be used for diagnosis of certain diseases such as diabetes mellitus.
