- Diammonium EDTA monohydrate
Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid diammonium salt monohydrate (EDTA) is an inorganic compound that is used as an environmental pollutant absorber and deodorizer. It is also a bactericide, which may be due to its ability to chelate copper ions. This chemical has been found to have antibacterial activity against knotweed (Polygonum cuspidatum). EDTA binds to the active substances of bacteria, preventing their function and leading to cell death. The knotweed extract was found to be more sensitive to EDTA than the other plants tested.
