2-Ethylhexyl hexadecanoate is a fatty acid that has been shown to promote hair growth in mice with alopecia areata. The mechanism of action is not yet known, but it may be due to its ability to activate the stem cell factor and cell factor pathways. This molecule also has anti-inflammatory properties, as it inhibits the production of proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 and TNF-α. 2-Ethylhexyl hexadecanoate can be used for the treatment of skin diseases such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, contact dermatitis, and acne vulgaris. Inorganic acids such as sodium carbonate and copper complexes can be used for external application to treat these skin disorders.
