2-Ethylimidazole is a chemical compound with the molecular formula CH3N2H. It has a melting point of -6°C, and a boiling point of 114°C. 2-Ethylimidazole is an organic compound that contains nitrogen atoms, hydrogen atoms, and carbon atoms. The molecule has two forms: crystalline polymorphs and chemical species. One form has a crystalline structure, while the other has an amorphous structure. These two forms have different physical properties such as the thermal expansion coefficient, which is 9×10-6 at 25°C for the crystalline polymorphs and 6×10-6 at 25°C for the chemical species. 2-Ethylimidazole has been shown to bind to metal ions such as copper (Cu) or zinc (Zn), forming coordination geometry structures in which each metal ion binds to one of the nitrogen atoms in the molecule.
