6-Ethoxy-pyridin-2-ylamine (6EPY) is a nucleoside analog that inhibits the activity of the polymerase, NS5B. It is used in the preparation of amides and esters as reaction products. In vitro studies have shown that 6EPY inhibits replication of hepatitis C virus, which may be due to its inhibition of viral RNA synthesis. 6EPY has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of HIV replication in vivo. This drug has high lipophilicity and can be formulated as an aqueous solution with organic solvents such as ethyl acetate or methanol.
